Alaska Brown Bears 2023 - Amazing Action

All of these images were taken during my two Alaska Bear Photo Safaris in Aug 2023.

My favorite subject to photograph are brown bears in Alaska…specifically when they are fishing for salmon. There is nothing more exhilarating than being in the water with these bears as they crash through the creeks right towards you and pounce on salmon!

I ran two 5-day Alaska Grizzly Photo Safaris in August and my guests were treated to the best bear action that I’ve ever witnessed in years of guiding these trips. At my favorite location within Katmai National Park (actually my favorite place on earth), there was plenty of playful and aggressive behavior…and plenty of salmon for the bears to chase down. On one day we walked a 4 mile stretch of creek and saw more than 80 individual bears over the course of 7 hours!

Additionally, it was a great year for cubs in this area. There were numerous sets of spring cubs and yearlings that survived their first year.

I will be running two of these photo adventures in 2024:
AUG 20-25, 2024 will be the regular lodge-based adventure with daily fly-outs to the bears
