WHAT TO EXPECT
We will base our safari in the wildest part of Alaska on the North shore of Lake Iliamna (Alaska's largest lake)…surrounded by 18 million acres of wilderness and accessible only by bush plane. The lodge is nestled between Katmai & Lake Clark National Parks. This is a Destination Lodge & Guide Service for Photographers specializing in Remote Wilderness Photo Safaris for Grizzly Bears, Walrus, Wolves and Dall Sheep. Included are daily bush flying adventures into the wildest wilderness on Earth. Your host, Jerry Jacques, has been guiding Photographers in Alaska since 1978. The Lodge is family run and environmentally friendly. They are NOT a large adventure company doing trips all over the world. They are NOT a hunting, fishing lodge or air service booking photographers in their slow seasons. They Are Alaska's Bear Experts!
They do one thing: Provide Wildlife Photographers & Adventure Travelers the best Grizzly Bear Experience in Alaska.
You will begin each day with a hearty home-cooked breakfast before taking a bush flight to the destination of our choice. This will typically be to an area where the most bear activity (bears fishing for salmon will be the priority). The lodge has access to over 127 different locations in the Alaskan Wilderness. Each day will the an exhilarating experience…filled with the action of bears crashing through alpine streams as they attempt to catch salmon. At the end of the day we will return to the lodge for a spectacular meal and sharing stories from the day.
We will almost always be photographing from the river’s edge. Most people opt to wear waders so that they don’t get wet or that they can sit along the shallow edge of the river and photograph at water level. There may also be occasions where we need to wade across shallow streams.
This trip is Moderate to Difficult in its physical requirements. You should be able to walk at least 4 miles a day. At times the terrain may be uneven and you should expect the rivers to be rocky. Average Temperature will be 50-65 F.
Each bear has different tolerance levels for how close it will be comfortable with us approaching it. We often approach to 50 yards and bears will occasionally wander past us as close as 15 yards. The guides are able to read the bears' body language and know just how close is a safe distance. We have many bears that we have identified and watched for years. There are a few sows that we have watched raising 3 generations of cubs. These Momma bears learned that we are not a threat to their cubs and often come lay down to nurse very close to us.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND FOOD
The main lodge is on the shore of Lake Iliamna and is the gathering place for our guests. You'll enjoy the warmth and atmosphere around the stone fireplace reliving the day's adventure, project images on a large screen, play pool, and plan tomorrow's adventures all while taking in a 180 degree panoramic view of Alaska's largest lake and the glacial filled mountains of the Alaska Peninsula. We have 6 comfortable cedar guest cabins each cabin has a private bathroom with unlimited hot water. There are 2 full sized beds in each cabin and you should expect double occupancy. Powered by a small hydro project, the cabins have full time electricity, to charge batteries, hair dryers or power a CPAP machine all night.

PHYSICAL HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
This is a great opportunity for you to take pictures of the environment. Most traveling is undertaken by aircraft. You should be able to climb into and out of a small plane or float plane. You should be able to walk as much as 4 miles per day over uneven terrain. Not all of our destinations will require this amount of walking. You should also be comfortable with potentially walking through shallow, moving water. Guests must complete a standard liability waiver before participating in this tour.
DEPOSITS AND PAYMENTS:
To register for most workshops you have the option of initially only paying a deposit. If you choose this option, the remaining balance is due 90 days before the start of the workshop. If you would like to set up an installment plan, please contact me.
A deposit is a commitment, on your part, that you will be participating on a photography tour/workshop. These deposits are generally used well in advance of the workshop to cover various expenses. Because of this, deposits are non-refundable or may be subject to a cancellation fee.
MORE THAN 180 DAYS BEFORE THE START DATE OF A WORKSHOP: Deposit forfeited. If your spot is filled, your deposit will be refunded.
90-180 DAYS BEFORE THE START DATE OF THE WORKSHOP: Deposit forfeited and you will be billed for 50% of workshop fee (minus the deposit paid). If your spot is filled, your deposit and all fees will be refunded.
LESS THAN 90 DAYS BEFORE THE START DATE OF THE WORKSHOP: Deposit forfeited and you will be billed the full workshop fee (minus the deposit paid). if your spot is filled, your deposit and all fees will be refunded.
It is extremely rare that I have to cancel a workshop. If I am forced to cancel a workshop for any reason, your entire tuition will be refunded or transferred to another workshop. The only conditions that might lead to cancelling a workshop would be; dangerous or unsafe conditions, a family emergency (but I can usually find a substitute leader) or under-enrollment. A forecast of “bad” weather is not enough to cancel a workshop. Inclement weather often creates spectacular photographic conditions.
Mark Buckler and Mark Buckler Photography are not responsible for refunding any costs associated with the workshop (including the workshop fee), travel, lodging, or incidental losses in the event a workshop is cancelled or you back out for any reason. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you acquire travel insurance.
